Renal Vein Thrombosis most commonly (90% of cases ) occurs in age:

1. Less then 1 year
2. 3 -10 years
3. 20-40 years
4. 50-60 years
5. 70-80 years

  #2

4. 50-60

nothing personal but must be related to renal disease in general, which peaks in that age group

  #3

me tot of 4 too..5 just seemed to old

hello sunny2,
nice q. What is the explanation for 1? Due to tmrs like neuroblastoma and compression? or due to hypoplasia?

  #13

RVT is a definite problem in neonates, a possible association exists between RVT and the factor V Leiden mutation in this age group

  #14

also RVT results from GI fluid loss primarily in neonates, and it has been reported to occur in adults as well . Researchers believe that dehydration and subsequent hemoconcentration induce sludging and thrombosis in the smaller interlobular and arcuate renal veins, which propagates to both larger and smaller vessels. Eventually, the renal vein is occluded, and occasionally, the effects extend into the inferior vena cava (IVC).

  #15

The next most common is 3, as it is secondary to nephrotic syndrome.

  #16

I just ca´t believe the answer, is it (1)? humm. when I saw it, i RUSHED back to my nephro notes and re-read them twice. and copied it in the CURIOSTIES space. hehe
