Jusr took my exam few days ago and find it difficult than step 1. Don't know if i'll pass the exam. Anyway, the questions length are comparable to USMLE world and some are even shorter. Here is the breakdown of my exam.

1. Medicine- 50% of questions composed of IM questions and subjects are equally distributed. Many diagnosis questions, got some derma pictures and 2 ECG. Got a lot of pathophysiology questions, so it helps when you study for step 1 first. Got around 4 questions on drugs side effect.

2. Surgery(10%) - Composed mostly of trauma and ortho cases. Know pneumothorax and pericardiac tamponade

3. Pediatrics(15%) - Cant remember the questions, luckily dont have milestone and difficult enzyme deficiency questions. No immunizations questions.

4. OB/ Gyne(15%) - Got 1 NST strips. OB and gyne are equally distributed. Some questions on infections on pregnant patients. Breast mass questions were asked. Ammenorhea questions and vaginal bleeding were also asked.

5. Prev. Med./Epidemiology(5%)- Have questions on sensivity and positive predictive test. Know the screening tests like pap smear, mammography and colonoscopy

6. Psychiatry(5%)- Adjustment disorder. Personality disorder, anorexia and bulimia

Study materials used were Kaplan, USMLE world, Boards and wards and Crush step2.

Hope this help

I had an exam in 2 days ago.I wanted to ask that i felt whole exam was going to be harder in ecah block.did u feel the same? How many questions u were sure about them in each block?hope the best for u

  #4

The blocks were of the same level of difficulty, except for one block which is easier. I'm sure in only half of the questions. The easier questions were from matching questions which ask only for diagnosis. The hardest were from pediatrics and some of the questions were so weird that i donnt think you will be able to answer it even if you read nelson's pediatrics

Thanks robin082006

Good luck on you score, cutedoc

Benson congratulations on passing exam I wish u a good score

Iam getting scared after reading in ur post thatthere were so many questions of step 1

Some pathophysiology that were asked were well covered in kaplan notes and UW( especially if have read the explanations). So if you understand the topics discussed in kaplan and UW, I think you will be in good shape.

Good luck on your exam

oh my God how you could read all kaplans and DVDs in one month?!! Maybe you can SAVE my life by tellin me how?!Just listening to DVDS takes around 20 days!!

  #16

I study for around 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. During my first reading, all I do is read the topics and highlight the important facts quickly, then watch DVD. I didn't do any memorization during my first reading, just go thru the topics, then try to learn something new from the lectures. Memorizaton is done during my second reading.

Som, I didn't do the NBME so I can't comment on it. The reason I didn't do it because I will not postpone my exam no matter what my score in NBME will be. Instead on doing NBME, I prefer to study USMLE world or kaplan qbook where there are explanations. Correct me if i'm wrong, from what I heard, NBME don't give you the correct answers and explanations.

agree with benson!
i did the same
