gabriela garcia only offers it for 1 year even if you are doing it for 1 week!!

she told me they cover any other possible rotations during that one year.

The information I provided above is what I got from extensive research on the web... I called more than 50 companies and most of them haven't even heard of such a thing. All the others I've got from people on forums, so I should take no credit for this. I posted the company that Dragonfly has already posted brcause I completed his information with address and other stuff, so thank Dragonfly for it..

Also, I know 3 other companies that provide MI for us, but I just hav their phone number. When I'll find further information I'll post it. I am still looking for insurance companies, just because I'd like to find one who covers less than a year, prefered 3 or 6 months, but I couldn't find one so far...

I've started a thread on USMLEForum about this issue.. I'm sure that in the end some information will come up eventually...

manu help me with this dilemma please

i seriusly need your advise, please POST your oppinion,
a lot of Universities ask for TOEFL as a requisite for an elective, but they've told me that they could wave the TOEFL if a have passed the step 2 cs.....

so i dont know what to do....
the toefl is cheaper, it cost like 150 bucks plus the studying material, it would be 250 dollars more or less, and i think that with a month or two of study i could get the score they want (79-80). but the problem whit the toefl is that i would lost unnesesary time, money and effort.... but if i dont get the score i need ill be losing just 200 dolars...

in the other hand the CS is very expensive you know 1200 plus the hotel 1300 plus the transport and food 1500 plus the preparation material i think i'll be expending like 2000 BUKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a lot of money man....

i think the CS would take more of my time like 2 or 3 months and if i fail the test i will have lost a huge sum of money......

the pros of taking the CS is that i will be focusing my energy, money and time in something that anyway i have to do in the future......

so what do you think i should go for the CS or for the TOEFL???????????

Medical School Students

To be eligible for Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS, you must be officially enrolled in a medical school located outside the United States and Canada that is listed in IMED both at the time that you apply and at the time you take the exam. In addition, the "Graduation Years" in IMED for your medical school must be listed as "Current" at the time you apply and at the time you take the exam. Your Medical School Dean, Vice Dean, or Registrar must certify your current enrollment status. The certification must be signed by the official within four months of its receipt by ECFMG. As soon as you graduate and receive your medical diploma, you must send two photocopies of your medical diploma and one full-face color photograph to ECFMG (see Provision of Credentials and Translations). The photograph that you send must be current; it must have been taken within six months of the date that you send it. A photocopy of a photograph is not acceptable.

In addition to being currently enrolled as described above, to be eligible for Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS, you must have completed at least two years of medical school. This eligibility requirement means that you must have completed the basic medical science component of the medical school curriculum by the beginning of your eligibility period.

Although you may apply for and take the examinations after completing the basic medical science component of your medical school curriculum, you should consider the following recommendations before applying for Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS. Before taking Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS, it is recommended that you complete your core clinical clerkships, including actual patient contact. If English is not your first language, it is recommended that you take the Test of Spoken English™ (TSE®), offered by the Educational Testing Service® (ETS®), and achieve a score of at least 45 before taking Step 2 CS. For more information on the TSE exam or to obtain application materials, visit www.ets.org/tse or call ETS at (609) 921-9000. This recommendation is for self-assessment purposes only; if you take the TSE exam, do not send your TSE score to ECFMG.

If you have passed the former ECFMG CSA, you are not eligible to take Step 2 CS, except under certain, well-defined circumstances. Eligible circumstances include: taking Step 2 CS to permanently validate an expired CSA examination date (see Validity of Examinations for Entry into Graduate Medical Education), taking Step 2 CS because your most recent performance on a clinical skills exam (CSA or Step 2 CS) is a failing performance (see Official Performance of Record for Examinees Retaking a Previously Passed Step in the USMLE Bulletin of Information), and retaking Step 2 CS to meet a time limit (see Reexamination and Reapplication and Retakes in the USMLE Bulletin of Information).

ECFMG reserves the right to reverify with the medical school the eligibility of medical school students who are registered for an exam. If ECFMG requests reverification of your student status with your medical school, ECFMG will release your score report only after reverification of your status has been received by ECFMG.

I re-read the Information Booklet and Buletin from ECFMG nd USMLE.org, but I couldn't find where I read that you're eligible to take CK only when you are less than 12 months away from your graduation, but it may have been First Aid for CK or First Aid for Foreign Medical Graduates. I don't know about the CS. The thing is that I didn't invent this.. I read it somewhere, but I don't recall where.

Also, this thread is for malpractice insurance, so I suggest we should move this discussion if we'll going to continue it to a new thread. I'll post when I'll find out more

I found it, but don't know if it is true. This is from First Aid for FMGs:

To be eligible to take the USMLE step 2, you should be within 12
months of completing the full didactic curriculum. This means that
you should not be more than 12 months away from graduating from
medical school. But this begs the question, why would you want to sit
for the USMLE 2 in the final year of medical school when you have not
even finished studying the subjects that you are likely to be tested on?
IMGs who have to complete a compulsory rotatory internship before
they graduate are in a better position, as they can take step 2 while they
are still interns. Your medical school should be included in the WHO
World Directory of Medical Schools, as explained in Chapter 4.

hey manu and spitmetal,

they have changed the rules more than a year ago'!! as far as i remember, they eliminated the "last 12-months" requirement for any steps. so to my best knowledge, as long as you have done 2 years of the med school, you can take any steps!!

spitmetal, there is no such a thing as TOEFEL option for USMLE anymore. the only way now for the past 3-4 years has been CS. so you HAVE TO do the CS. and even before then you couldn`t waive the practical exam. back then if you were an IMG you had to take TOEFEL+CSA(something like CS) but now they have the CS both for IMGs and AMGs.

Don't know about that, shy... maybe Dragonfly can tell you more. I emailed her and she replied. Didn't try to call her. The contact information I posted here I got from her signature at the end of the email she sent back to me.

Dragonfly, I think spitmetal wants to take the CS so it would be considered as a standardized english test for the medical schools who ask you to have the TOEFL in order to get accepted in doing electives.
