start as early as possible. if u need a visa things are gonna be extremely tuff.
post match is like a lottery - dont hedge a lot of bets on it. u can buy the token anytime upto march and i think even beyond..

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY ..I AM AN IMG GRADUATED ON 2001(OLD IMG) FROM AFRICA...I DO NOT HAVE A VISA PROBLEM THANKS GOD . NOW I HAVE A TIME PROBLEM I AM INTERESSTED IN OBGYN AND I WANT A GUIDE ON WHAT TO DO ..SHOULD I FORGET ABOUT THIS MATCH AND TRY MY BEST TO CATCH THE NEXT MATCH OR WHAT SHOULD I DO ..SHOULD I TRY TO CHATCH THIS MATCH WITH ANY SCORE IN STEP 2 AND TO GET ENROLLED IN ANY PROGRAM AND THEN TO TRY TO SWITCH ..?! ADD TO ALL THAT I DO NOT HAVE ANY US EXPERIENCE

get the best score u can. never compro on score. switching can be dicey.. if u decide to apply then apply early. gl

alot of guys said that some community prog resedents shift to better programs when the chance is available(as they have now one year resedency clinical experience)
& that may give room for prelim students to B upgraded to resedents..
is the contract of resedency for the whole 3 years or renewed yearly? does it default you if U leave it? what's the worse thing can happen then?!!!

u get a bad reco letter from pd then u lose both birds. best is to get into the prog of ur choice from pgy1. many ppl do change without adverse effects

i am an img from india.i have just written step1
I TOO HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM.SO WHAT HAVE U DECIDED NOW.I AM REALLY TENSED
1.is it possible for me to get any good residency in 2007 match if i complete step2 ck ans cs by declastweek
2.i know i will not have much chances of interviews but let me compromise with whatever seat i get.my next plan will be apply for a good residency slot next year with step 3 results and good LOR,AND I WILL AHVE 1 YR OF USA EXPERIENCE.
3.IF I GET A J1 VISA NOW,CAN I APPLY FOR H1B VISA NEXT YEAR WHEN I OPT FOR CHANGE IN RESIDENCY.
4.CAN I APPLY FOR INTERVIEWS JUST BASED ON step1 scores of 90 and will i get good number of interviews.
5.WHAT WILL U suggest me sir.
should i hurry up now this year itself or should i wait for 2008 residency.i am really afraid because of the growing competation and difficulty in getting the visa.plz do reply back

1. good will be very tuf. i know bcoz i was in same boat last yr.
2. yeah its possible. but remem switchin can be complicated. better to do prelim than categ.
3. no u cant switch visas. j1 is j1..
4. i did with a 99 - good progs have ppl with all 3 scores in high 90s applyin on sept1
5. dont sir any1 here. we are all jobless peers.. well atleast i am
do ur best wrt scores.. u cant compete with 10000other imgs. only improve urself.. visa is unpredictable.. pray no1 anythin stupid in the near/distant future..
