it is a coronal section of the brain. its an area near the ventricle so i simply guessed e as the answer...will probably have to see a few coronal sections on google images to understand that

The question also mentions "state of disinhibition" and we know that loss of neurons in basal ganglia or one of its components leads to a state of disinhibition, most commonly striatum, so I guess the answer is E. striatum, even if we cant make out the diagram. I guess they do "give the answer in the stem of the question" , as Prof. Goljan mentions in his lectures!

with the red nucleus, substantia nigra ...the only confusion is the white circular stuff...what could be the basis pedunculi is covered by something else...maybe its a cblm or something...its a coronal section and i remember all sorts of stuff cud show up in the same slice.. lets see what i think abt this 10 minutes later hehe :P

Well said Waq...Difficult to orient to this picture. My guess is... Part of it is the axial section of midbrain- and the coronal section of the lateral ventricle and cortex-through medial temporal lobe-hippocampus is seen on either side (like a watermelon cut in to planes -see pic!!!! (Hope I am not imagining tooooo much) Arrow points to subtantia nigra- the stain on the picture is probably staining myelin because all white matter tracts including those on crus cerebri looks dark- look at subcortical regions and callosum. The answer is E

it is substantia nigra. E. eventhough as many of you mentioned, just with the word "Disinhibition" you could make the right choice.
