this is just a suggestion, i've noticed that there is a limit in sending PMs to the other members, i really dislike this policy, i don't see any reason for it. sometimes, i (maybe others too) need to send more PMs, and i can't.
i don't know, maybe it would be a good idea to have an unlimited number of PMs per day or at least a higher number/day.

Private messages are increasing the database size. Older members still have hudreds of PMs in their inbox that cannot be deleted. Thats because PMs are hard deleted from database only if both sender and receipent delete the PM. So there are some rules to avoid database congestion in the future.
Members can have a total of 25 PMs stored and can send 5 PMs/day.
Forum Leaders have much more space allowed for PMs.
Don't forget to use instant messages (IMs) with members that are online.The IMs are also private. There is no email notification and they are deleted once sender and receiver read the message. There is no limit on instant messages yet. I changed the refresh rate to from 20 to 5 seconds so this will work faster.

hmm understandable...is emailing some of those members a possibility..
perhaps if this cud be explained to forum members when they exceed their limit, ppl wud erase them.

i can understand that older discussions are preetty helpful but if the size is a problem, we cud delete some posts just saying thanku, smileys, or asking for studying partners..

Ok, a new group was created ... Forum Leaders in recognition for great contribuition from members with more than 1000 posts and older than 100 days.
Forum Leaders have these extra features:
- more PMs allowed (100 stored and 25/day)
- more space allowed for attachments (10MB)
- can attach 3 files at a time per post or per PM
- username displayed on leaders page[/list]

sorry this is dumb, and i may have noticed an obvious feature, but wass wondering.....PMs are deleted when both the senders and the recipients delete them..but only received ones are in the inbox. how do the senders delete their PMs

oh of course..its the 'sent items ' u click on ...bascially iu go on the arrow where it says 'inbox' and u wait..and the list appears ( for those who still havnt discovered it yet ) ...have been looking for this since ages!!

I was wondering why we have a pm limit, a suggestion would be to allow unlimited PMs but still only store 25. This way it will not clog the memory+ we can talk without the annoyance of the instant messaging system. I constantly get forbidden errors and it becomes a hassle. Yet the pm seems like a better way to communicate Ideas and sometimes respond to questions. Plus not all members allow Instant Messages. I know I'm a fairly new contributor, but if I had known about this site two years ago I would have joined then. It would really a dream come true.

Hello,
There are resons for PM limit like limiting database size and server load or minimizing the potential spam from bad users.
The limit is much higher for moderators or for members with >1000 posts (leaders) or for premium members.

How about making it automatic:-
You know in MSN or even in Yahoo the sent msgs., the spam msgs. even the msgs. in the recycle bin can be or realy are deleted in about 10 days if they are not used. That way you dont have to worry about it any more. Let the computer do the dirty work.

Not a bad idea, but for me, I usually have important info in pm, so 10 days is too short , I need a month to keep pm . Some times to reply or as reference too .
Also it will be great if you clean up your pm, you get reward of more pm to post per day .

By the way how to save some pm not in inbox, but you've sent in sent item and also to delete that sent item . Isn't that sent item also take a lot of web spaces?
