schizophrenia,paranoid.

study-ing, schizoid is someone who prefers to AVOID social activities and live alone.

schizotypal=schizoid + bizzare and strange behavior

nadiabarati, don u think the description u have given for schizotypal suits this pt.?

As far as i understand, schizoid personality is a person who sounds like a born 'loner'. They just hate company so keep to themselves---no friends, minimum contact(they are not suspicious or anything, just prefer being alone).Other than that there is nothing bizzare about them.
As for schizotypal personality, they are the peculiar "types",they look weird, act weird. They believe in magic and spells and what not. Added to that they are loners too---coz,firstly they are suspicious of others, and secondly "normal" people prefer to leave them alone because of their weird nature.
As for schizophrenia paranoid---they have been having paranoid delusions for over a period of 6 months----delusions that are completely bizarre, which is completely unbelievable.
Hope this helps, ice

yes som. it can be schizotypal. At first glance I thought the patient is more than a little bizzare made me think of schizophrenia, paranoid. Still it's a little difficult...

For this question, they say she stays alone(shizotypal's do),wears odd clothes(again schizotypal's.a schizophrenic would show poor groomong/inappropriate dressing),looks for redeemable cans(again shizotypal's,who have a penchant for collecting odd things),suspicious of neibhours trying to kill her(not really bizarre to be called a paranoid schizophrenic),believes in powers of crystals(that's schizotypal again, who believes in magical stuff.cant call that bizarre either---there are so many of us 'normals',who have our lucky pens, dresses, rings and what not!) So i guess, this is a shizotypal for sure. please do correct me if I am wrong. ice

yes ice I agree with you this case must be schizotypal.

  #10

yes, this is a schizotypal, thanks ice for the beautiful description

  #11

but how come a personality disorder appears in this age?!!!! still I doubt!!..

They dont mention she was not like this before.maybe she met another schizotypal when she was young, they married had kids,he passed away and now she is back to the single schizotypalwink, living alone . Or maybe she was always like this and when she was young folks dint bother, but now she is old and so her family is worried about her safety,or-----Thing is they havent mentioned anywhere that all these syptoms started recently,so i guess we can assume that she was always like this.
