Hi everyone,

ive been off this forum for a while tho was very active on it about 2 months ago--anyway-gave my CK on Aug 7th--and well not quite sure what to make of it....

I had expected the exam to be difficult--so it wasnt really a surprise--however my hopes that it might be easy were definitely dashed.
I felt that the exam was VERY comprehensive and everything of any importance was tested--in fact i would say that just Kaplan/other notes isnt the best prep--if possible a brief review of some important topics like CHF,Nephro,Ventilation, transplants etc from a good text would be quite helpful--u need to have all your concepts absolutely clear coz they twist questions in an exceptional way!!!

i prepared for 4 mths total & i used UW in the last month and got 70% on the 1st timed attempt--didnt do the NBMEs coz i ran outta time--i think UW is an excellent resource with many questions quite similar to actual ones on the test.

subject wise--everything was covered comprehensively--IM of course was the most--but they had asked enuf of all other subjects to cover everything.

I for my part was shocked by the psychiatry--i thot i was ok with it but the questions were very confusing---i probably got a large %age of those wrong....

biostats there were only abt 1 q per block--some easy--some confusing.

time is enough--but not with much time left over to review marked questions---u end up using the entire 1 hr of the block--and ur not completely satisfied--and by the 7th block or so ur mind is well and truly fried--its just mental fatigue after that and how well u cope with it!!!!

neway--im just glad another step is over--im not expecting a great score esp after reading about Rasul--my heart goes out to you!

Alina----amazing score---guess u took the dancing pill wink Congrats!!!!!

Cyra--best of luck with ur result--and of course how can i forget achilles---what happened man--how was it????

so waiting for the result tho its delayedshaking head

now will prepare for the CS......

Please let me know regarding the time, how you do compare it with step 1? I mean you also just finished each block on time or you had more time in step 1?

It's very important to me cause I was just able to finish each block on time in step 1 except for 5 questions that I missed. Do you think I wi'' have more problem with step 2 regarding time management? How do you compare the needed time in each step?

  #10

i did have more time in step 1 than in step 2
i still think u will find that the time is enough--just

questions on step 2 are much longer than step 1--however, i found the exam longer more due to the fact that most questions are very confusing--the best next step etc etc......make u have to read every detail in the question and really think hard so u don't get conned.

that said, i did finish each block about 5-10 minutes before time was up---however--thats often not really enough to make the most of the marked questions----so I would suggest u try to get as many questions as possible on the 1st read itself...so less review required.

i suggest u dont worry so much abt this aspect--put in the study and solve enuf questions--and the time shd work out!!!

dragonfly, i put in a quick read(scan) u cud say of my old texts--mainly davidson(med)
also looked up obgy(dutta) and ghai(paeds) where i had any doubts
davidson helped a lot--i just went thru the boxes/tables etc rapidly the last 2 days--quite high yield!!!
i think cmdt/washington manual may be even better!!
some questions abt ventilator settings, endocrine, some electrolytes/geriatrics etc---topics i found i got wrong in UW--and are not too well given in kaplan---i was able to clear all my basics abt these topics b4 the exam thru use of the proper text!!!

hope this helps!!
best of luck!!cool
