Kaplan Qbank USMLE

I just took the exam yesterday

I studied kaplan notes and dvds for 4 month then did all UW in tutor mode(ended with 66.2%)
my experiance showed that

a) the questions are arranged in a similar manner and generally as difficult as UW. kaplan Qbook is too easy and the question are too standerdized and too clear. they are merely to test knowledge but it is very good to give you a lot of idea. but in the exam expect UW rather than Kaplan. yet some questions on UW are too detailed and relatively advanced (I mean too much syndromes and metabolic disorders than the real test)

b) there were relatively many questions that require step 1 knowledge, so for those planning to take step 2 first (like I did). you need to study pharmacolgy and pathology throughly plus all neuro science. behavioral science. you also should have a fair knowledge in genetics.

c) one strange thing is that I got several questions about the same topic (for example I got may be 6 or 7 Qs about pulmonary embolism as a diagnosis plus may be 5 more for treatment and pervention).

d) the exam was long but I wasn't as tired as I expected.

e) the time is enough if you didn't get too suspicious about questions you know, so my advice once you got a clear answer don't ever reread an easy question looking for tricks. A GOOD WAY to save a lot of time is to read the answers of long questions before the q as the paragraph is in a lot of cases is unecessarily long. but still you need to get evry info in the q before deciding

f) Beware of the mind game the exam play in you. MY TOP ADVICE IS never be afraid because the 1st few questions are hard. I realized that within each block harder questions are always on the start and the en. also the 1st blocks were harder than the next ( my best blocks were 6 and 7 where I am nearly sure of most answers) also the last block was one of the worst

g) MY SECOND TOP advice is trust your clinical sense. once your feelings point to an answer don't change it except if you are Competely sure of it. I have changed a couple of questions (on the exam and on nmbe forms) and in all turned out that I changed the correct answer into something wrong.

I hope all of you the best o luck
