enkephalins have which of the following effect on the GIT??

a.increased intestinal secretions
b. increase release of gastric acid
c. increase release of pancreatic enzymes
d. inhibit smooth muscle contraction
e. stimulate smooth muscle contraction

As far as i remember, Enkephalins are basically endogenous opioids. Hence decrease peristalsis...etc

agree with young doc...enkephalins & endorphins are endogenous opioids found in myentric plexus

Actually there are two types of movements in the intestine.
  1. Propulsive
    1. These are inhibited
  2. Non propulsive (dominant ones)
    1. these are segemental and rhythmic and their amplitude is increased with cramps and they prodimnate in case of opiod administration .Tone of sphincters is increased .That is why opiods are CI in biliary colic .Because bilirary system pressure can increase 10 times.

well docsrinu,it's none of your business to point abt the answer ,,well you can see at any forum some ques are left pending without answers and nobody answered them yet...did u try on this ques,i dont see your answer..i want others to participate so that chain goes on...ok then post any ques and see how many people respond to your ques in 2 -3 weeks..
