A 26-year-old G2 P1 woman with a history of chronic hypertension, comes to your office for the first time for antenatal checkup. She says that she is at 7-months gestation. She has recently moved into your community and missed the last 2 antenatal checkups with her previous physician. According to her antenatal records and to an ultrasound performed at 16-weeks gestation, she is now at 30-weeks, but her fundal height is only 26 cm(10.2 inches). Fetal heart tones are heard. Her BP is 140/90mm of Hg. You suspect an intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and order a repeat ultrasonogram. Which of the following is the single most effective parameter for predicting fetal weight in suspected IUGR by using ultrasonogram?

A.

Biparietal diameter

B.

Abdominal circumference

C.

Femur length

D.

Head to abdomen circumference ratio

E.

calculated fetal weight

There are two kinds of iugr symmetric and asymmetric
In symmetric all parametere are low and this is caused by a
fetal problem and happens early in pregnancy in asymmetric
all parameters are normal except abdominal circumference and this is caused by a placenta mediated problen such as hypertension poor nutrition or maternal smoking and occurs later in pregnancy.
