Hi I am also an old graduate and I did medicine like 12 years ago. I am studying for next year. Highly recommended stuff on the net is Kaplan Lecture Notes with DVDs for all except Anatomy and Pathology. Use High Yield for former and Goljan Rapid Review with audio CD for latter. Supplement your study with MCQs from Kaplan Q-Book and Q-Bank along with USMLE cd and Kaplan Simulated. Also 2-3 months before your exam you can do online NBME forms too. Also, to do is webpath little bit and CTs and MRIs from Imaging Atlas cd. I think 10 months is enough but depends on your circumstances how much time you can give to studies. If you are working then it will take from 10-12 months of study. Hope this helps you GL

Hey welcome aboard I also graduated 15+ years ago . You have company here . Oldkidontheblock has given you very good advice regarding the books and preperation time. In my case , I have been away form books all these years . I am a stay at home mom of three. So for me 10 months are not enough . I am planning to give may be a whole year to my prep. As I have forgotten whatever I had read in my med.school , I am unable to follow kaplan alone and have to look into text books all the time. I once started my prep about 4 years ago and read Ganong . At that time I was not aware of existance of these forums or any kind of review books including kaplan I dropped the idea of taking the test as I got pregnant and did not have heart to study during pregnancy or with a young child .Then last year I found out about kaplan notes and dvds on another forum and tried reading physio. I really liked the lectures. The physio teacher is a bit monotonous but expains everything in excellent manner. Now I am done with biochemistry and am doing micro with a wonderful study group on this forum. I had to read Lippincott along with kaplan for biochemistry and am reading Microbiology made ridiculously simple , along with kaplan. If you have been in touch with medical profession or studies , then only kaplan may be enough for you. Majority of the test takers do kaplan for all the subjects except pathology , as oldkid said , and 10 months should be enough for that. If you have not been in touch, you might need to consult big books an may need to spend a few extra months. Someone with the user name p53 has given advice about books somewhere in this forum. The people who write their exam experience also list the books they studies. So reading the exam exprience thread can also help in the selection of books. I wish you a pleasant journey towards your goal Would be glad if could be of any help in future too.

a quick summary of what most high scorers relate on their exam experiences. prep time approx 6-7 months. kaplan lecture notes plus dvd's, check ebay. for path goljan audio is a must and can also be purchased on ebay. use either rapid review path or brs path and trash kaplan's. high-yield series for anato, neuro, embryo. start doing questions after second or third read. kaplan's online qbank is still the best. to see where you stand and an estimate of what score you can expect do nbme forms which cost $45 each. spread them out and do the first one maybe two months before scheduled exam so you can focus on weak areas. since its been 20 years you might need extra references, but don't waste to much time on these just use them to clear doubts: robbins pathologic basis of disease, lippincotts biochemisty, microbiology and immunology examination and board review. for the other subjects i dont think you'd need anything more than kaplan. best of luck to you.
