is phase 2 action of succinyl choline reversed by AchE inhibitors or not?
coz it is given in kaplan that AchE inhibitors do not reverse this action but FA says the opposite!sad

I think AchE inhibitors would even enhance the paralytic effect of succinyl choine. (more depolarizing effect)
plasma cholinestrase (aka psudocholinestrase) is the enzymy that hydrolys succinyl choline. So in during anaethsia succinyl choline apnea, resulting from deficiency of plasma choline estrase. fresh blood transfusion(which contain plasma cholinestrase) is used to break succinylcholine and recover the succinyl apnea.
AchE inhibitors are also not used in succinyl apnea which suggest more that they don't reverse succinyl choline paralytic effect (in phase 2)

always feel free to correct me.

the paralysis produced by depolarizing blockers is increased by Cholinesterase inhibitors during Phase1 During phase II, the block is usually reversible by Cholinesterase Inhibitors

When there is continuous infusion of Succinyl Choline the effect of the drug which is continuous depolarization (Phase 1 ) changes to gradual repolarization with resistence to depolarization (Phase 2)

the above is the Excerpt from Katzung review of Pharmacology 7th Ed. pg 233.

I hope this helps u (sometimes u need references n both FA n KLN are not the ones to be relied upon, i didnt notice the discrepancy myself untill u indicated) wht kaplan failed to mention was tht after sometime it does respond to AChE inhibitors.

Abt the correction SuccinylCholine Blockade during Anaesthesia R u sure the reason we use Fresh Plasma is for Succinyi reversal cos i thought it tends to help in the shift of Oxygentaion curve cos of inc 2 3 - DPG conc in FFPs

plz clarify the point n ur reference Thank u
