you did the right thing applying now, people are already getting interviews and rejections, as you can see you already obtained 3 interviews (let me guess no visa issues?) with only a step 1 score. are they prelim or categorical interviews? good luck

I count 27 surgery candidates on this forum, that can't be everybody, must be more out there as silent observers.

for those who have clicked both prelim and categorical for a program and have been invited for an interview which did not specify which one it is, how do you know if it is a prelim interview or a categorical? do you call or email the programs?

I have not heard from any program for last 2 weeks, neither interview nor rejections. Is it so quite for other img's as well? This silence is really frustrating.

hi guys, lately iīve been thinking (Abraham too). How bad is a prelim position for general surgery??? is it like a dead end? how hard is to get a PGY2 for surgery after it? i know itīs likely you get a categorical after that. But in that case, what is more likely to happen? to begin since PGY1 but with a categ contract now (i heard this isnīt allowed) or continue in your PGY2? maverick or any other knowledgeable, thanks in advance.

I have heard that medicaid does not allow after preliminary surgery to do categorical surgery PGY 1 again. Can anyone more knowledgeable comment on that?

no idea buddy. i would say weigh your options. if u dont get categ, there are 2 options. go into prelims and then apply next year with no surety or hope u impress somebody and get a PGY2 which then again is no guarantee u will get pgy3 another route is doing research for 2yrs, get us lors (like americadotcom) then try. not really much knowledgeable on this

am thinking of unchecking the prelim box in all the univ affiliated/ community programs and just letting the categ remain. what effects do u think it can have, done at this stage?

Hey guys!!! I've been watching this thread for a while now. i'm also an IMG from Dominicana applying for Qx, only Cat. Taking into account the dates when you applied i could be considered a late applicant (early oct.) but it seems that we're going down the same road. Already received an IV at Maimonides (prelim, even though i didn't apply for prelims) and 2 rejections at Summa Health and Baystate. I'll be around...
