Do you guys know its a 7 year program at U Penn? So, no interviews from surgical programs as yet? I am keeping my fingers crossed too. Have not applied to a single Internal Medicine program as a back up. What about you all ? Has everyone here kept a second choice in internal medicine as a back up?

Hi hecmd23 and chemamr, and everybody else Iincluding maveric. Maveric are you wirting your thoughts in usmleforum too? I guess it looks like you. If not sorry, i am mistaken then. But it is not about it. To everybody who wants to know more about Bronx Lebanon Hsopital could you please look in usmleforum rezidency, and type on search box - Bronx Lebanon Hospital. And I would like to ask your opinion about this hospital. Of course crime is big, but, but.... The main criteria is not this I think. The main criteria is load of surgeries performed in this institution inpatient surgeries around 1400 per year and outpatient - 4800 (take a look in freida and look at the hopital data). Unfortunately there no more information about it. I think we can take the crime, but how about numbers of surgeries. There 13 surgeons, i guess they want to operate and 15 categorical rezidents they want it too ( they need to do around 1000 in five years). I am bad with math, can somebody explained it to me.

SPIRO: as i tell you, i think thatīs how it is. Good things and bad things. It seems to be that they have tons of practice, surgeries. Not too much academy. Maybe if you are aiming to be general surgeon only (no sub), it could work. What day is your interview? november ...?. good thing is that they offer prematches if you are interested. Whatīs your opinion spiro?

Hi everybody. My credentials 230/245/pass, experience including US. Chemamr I hope that you are right and they have tons of surgery. But if you compare numbers of sugrgeries with other hospitals, not very preaty picture. In rest I do not care much about other things, and believe that they a good program anyway. But from my experience, I am still not convinced that there are enough surgeries per capitation.

i donīt know for sure guys about that hospital, iīm only repeating what other guys in another forum said, but i canīt know for sure either (about prematch or number of surgeries). I think your info about the number is more objective/reliable Spiro.

if number of surgeries really matter (which it should be) i think Loyola University in IL should be included in your list - i know i included it in mine. They're known for numerous surgeries everyday, 4th year students dread their surgery rotation there....well that's what i heard. haven't included any back-up specialty also...its suregry all the way for me. Good luck guys!

Loyola is not an IMG friendly program, as far as I know. But is worth trying but not paying. What do you think are our chances in getting a position in categorical surgicla program? I have read an article in The official journal of programs directors of surgery "Current Surgery" that program directrors are not taking IMG doctors specially, from different motives. What do you think about that Doctors.

Well my friends, Most Surgical Programs said through their web or emails that Categorical positions are reserved for those with USCE so obtaining a Cat pos would be not possible for many of us considering most applicants don't have it. On the other hand Spiro, It seems that info regarding our chances of getting into a Program anounce a decrease year by year: A lot of factors explaining this. It is obvious that is getting harder every day. GL to all of u
