Do you think Ross grads are considered over true IMG?

Hi sustenance, in this thread, no body shares info, even how many IVs or where they have been. I tried so many times, but surgery-like people don't want to get involved, just keep asking questions. Maverick started this thread, but did not keep it alive. I have got one IV for prilim. It is in Chicago and I am going there in Feb. I have got some IVs for Neuro and IM, so I am a little bit secured but still worried.

I know of SABA students who matched and of ROSS students who matched but overall I don't think that you'd have any significant advantage over an IMG. The one thing you have goin for u is u are American I'm assuming so that helps. I think 9 gen surgery interviews will get you matched but who knows? Last year, one of my friends went for 16 interviews and he didnt match in surgery which is almost unheard of. Franky, I think personality plays a huge role. And take anything the chairman or PD say with a grain of salt. I was informed by my top choice that they would rank me highly and that I was very desirable but I still ended up not at my first choice. U just gotta play the game wisely. Also, my medical school did not interview any foreign grads this year so depending on the hospital, u may or may not luck out.

Hey Amir, I don't know much about IM but I do know that plenty of FMGs match in IM even at my school's program which is considered high tier.

Good post, I appreciate it. I had interviews in NY, NJ, Ohio, and South Carolina. 10 total, but of course, still worried. It has been more and more competitive. I tried to be honest in interviews and be myself, I think I have a likeable personality. Who knows what they are looking for. What med school did you attend? And if you matched in surgery, how many IV's and how long was your rank list?

joel... i dont think its a ross thing vs a true img thing. its a matter of JI visa vs citizen. For example i have meet through interviews many of people with 99's on multiple exams but cause they need a visa they arent gettin alot of interviews. many hosp especialy where you are interviewin...ny, nj have decreased the JI visa they give out or make it a case by case basis. so dont think its a school vs a school....cause then ross would be considered like mny of the other caribean schools(st.george/American U). your advantage you can do 3/4yr in the us...so more usce. Dont sweat all the others credientials. surgery is competition.....all the time 24/7. you really got to know you can be better than everyone reguardless of school or grades.

Karma is a powerful thing. To each his own. Maverick, still waiting on how your interview experience went.

hey guys, sorry to be sporadic but just plain busy having fun. what i had meant few days back was that above 8-9 interviews ur chances of matching dont increase (as per NRMP stats for last year for IMGs). it might be a statistical one off but it is a probability and yeah its not caribbean vs non-carribean IMGs. Its visa vs citizen/GC. A citizen like u will have many more interviews because programs like the UMDNJs dont send invites to those who require visas for example. so whats there to worry about. u have done what u could. now enjoy till match.

joel you brought a good point. with how competitive surgery is and with even 8-10 interviews being an img you might not match. did you apply to back ups? I mean i applied for just prelim surgery cause i am goin for anesthesia.....but i did apply widely and with IM as my back up.
