hi guys, i''m not sure whether its a good idea to call the program. advantage: you find out the status and don't have to wait disadvantage: if the program has even kept you on 'hold' or is still reviewing applications, it may look unfavourably upon your application because they might be sick and tired of people calling all the time. tolito, what is the impression you got after calling them? there's a post somewhere in this forum or the other forum showing a letter from Huron hospital asking for patience, etc. I don't know, what do you guys think about this. Also tolito, for those programs still reviewing applications, how long can we expect to receive applications? would you guys say until the end of november? middle or end of december? some of us have ot book flights and stuff

PHR. I am sure u ll ve had iv calls and they give u like dates from nov to jan ... . U call them a week late and they ll tellu that all the dates re taken except 1 or 2 and ask u to pick them. Now in such a situation do u really expect a) people to cancel Iv b) them to mail well in advance for u to be called c)programs to make way for more dates. Its kinda impossible . its a eye wash... making it little easier to digest. dont wait , move on.

csdude, I don't know if i got your post right, but something like that happened to me at Maimonides. They sent the invitation, as i have to plan a trip and work around a budget i took a week to decide the dates, so when i finally sent to confirm my dates what i got in response was that "all dates are filled"; so right now I'm on a waiting list hoping that option A (someone cancels) happens. The coordinator told me that my situation was a gamble but that many applicants do cancel, so a window of opportunity. Rejection: Northwestern Dear Applicant, Thank you for your application for the categorical General Surgery Residency Program at McGaw Medical Center, Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a categorical surgery interview. We had a very competitive group of applicants for the program, and the decision was extremely difficult. If you applied to our preliminary program, we will contact you regarding your application status in a different email. We appreciate you applying to our program, and wish you luck with your residency search and surgical career.

And they just keep coming, rejection Northwestern University. But I found something good today; most of the programs review the applications during NOV. In fact, 80% of the IV are given during this month, and about 20% during DEC. Some people do get IV before the release of the Dean's letter, and that means that you have a brilliant record, or that they really want you. So, do the math. It looks like it is just getting started .

10 interviews, 12 rejections so far. Last week was very fruitful to me, received 4 calls. I was expecting few calls this week as well. Response has not been good this week, received 2 rejections. Still many programs to hear from. Does anyone know till when do they offer interviews?

the program coordinators appeared cordial. i dont think they would reject one based on the fact that one called them. in fact, it is a yes, we are still reviewing and no, you have not been accepted! am trying to keep my cool but it is difficult. the rejections are rolling in and no interviews so far. i continue to believe.

Anyone....is it possible for someone who already submitted it's application as Categorical, to also add the preliminary tab, even if programs have already downloaded their application?? I don't know if it's allowed, but if so i'd like to try it on programs that have not reached their deadline.

No you can't. You will have to contact the programs individually but that is almst like a death sentence for your application. Shows that you have no confidence. Hope this helps.

in surgery, its said that every year seats go unmatched in preliminary positions.....these are available for post match......but to take part in post match, one should not have matched anywhere....if you dont get surgery in your ranked choices and get matched with an internal medicine prog or any other field then you would not be able to take part in post match for prelim open seats ..IS THIS TRUE??? also is it true that to apply to some prog in post match we necessarily need to have applied there earlier....or its nothing like that... 1 is it so that to be able to take part in post match, one should have necessarily taken part in match ? 2 in order to apply to some prog for post match, is it required to have applied there beforehand? 3 Suppose i rank 6 programs, top 3 for general surgery position and last 3 for internal medicine and then i dont match in general surg prog but match in internal medicine program, can i still take part in post match and apply for general surgery program which have open seats?

From what I've read regarding the post-match scramble, here's what I've learned: 1. It is not necessary to be registered for the match to participate in scramble. HOWEVER, the unmatched positions are listed in NRMP and you will need access to view it, which can be done if you are either already registered or if a friend can allow you to use his/her access. 2. ERAS allows to apply for 30 unmatched positions free of charge during the scramble. No more than 30, not even for an additional fee. 3. A candidate can apply to any available program, regardless of whether he/she has applied to it earlier in the year. 4. Obviously, if you have matched in the routine match, you can't take part in the scramble. Hope this helps.

BTW, sustenance, would you please let us know ur creds? No offense, but it would help (me at least) to know if you are a FMG, AMG, in residency or not, etc if we have to analyze your responses to the various q's. Your answers have a sense of authority and I would like to believe that you are a FMG who has matched successfully.

no problem. i'm an international student graduating from an american medical school this year. i am writing the international student guide for my school and have been doing some research regarding match. I hope i din't sound too authoritative. I am applying for urology which is early match. I just thot i would throw my 2 cents in for those of you trying to match. the information i have is gleaned from all the interviews i have been to (9) and from all the lectures regarding match.
