Susheutha, when you make your list complete on ERAS and all your documents uploaded in ERAS, apply. your chances is a bit low, because your almost 2 months late, but I think it is better than wait another year. you at least tried your chances

Thanks guys for the support, I spoke to few program directors they said it is never late before October 31st and they all view the application in totalitarian or a holistic view,I dont want to apply without my resutls thats the reason I waited.Few are of the opinion that early bird gets its worm but sure its never late I am confident that I will get through Amir I dont think I am late. Most of the people have seen my CV and asked me to apply for thier program got good guidance---Thanks for you all

To be realistic, you are a bit late, To be idealistic, you have time. The most important part is your documents should be uploaded in the ERAS post office as soon as possible.

for FMGs applying in gen surg residency, most progs give only J1 visa. so if we take prelim position on J1 visa and then dont get categorical position the subsequent year, what is the way out to prevent going back to native country to meet the 2yr home country return requirement that comes with J1visa.I dont think it would be possible to get waiver wihtout completing residency. Can we shift to H1 or F1 from J1 without completing 2yr HRR or so to say can we postpone the 2yr HRR requirement?

same rejection for me maverick. panchal: if some day you are in that position, youŽll find out what to do more easily with the support of your hospital. I think you canŽt switch from J1 to H1.

ya dunno. guess u will have to return. but its a guess, consult an attorney or current prelim residents to find out. prelim surg looks full of danger to me.... a path to carefully trod on, after finding out all variables

well, thats the very point...i dont want to wait for that day to come when in the end i realise that there is no way out and will have to go back..yes you are probably right, one cannot change from j1 to any other category before meeting the 2yr HRR....however a friend told me that we change to F1 and meet the 2 yr HRR later which i doubt is true...i am trying to get hold of some lawyer who can throw some light on this matter...would appreciate if anybody in the forum can be of some help on this issue.....got 4 calls in prelim surg until now, but 2 are j1 visa so want to decide whether to rank them or not....what about you guys? does anyone need visa? panchal: if some day you are in that position, youŽll find out what to do more easily with the support of your hospital. I think you canŽt switch from J1 to H1. [/quote]
