If you are fast on typing, you can use it. Practice from USMLE CD, time yourself, if you finish everything in 10min, of course computer writing is legible. Handwriting is ok as long as you handwting is good. I did write my most cases by hand, used computer only for short cases like phone cases that there wasn't any PE part. Good luck, practice on those pt note samples from cD>

waqas, is there any specific reason why you advise that? I was thinking maybe it would be better to type since I tend to cross out a lot while writing. bo, what i understood from the usmleCD was tht once u choose a particular way of writing SP notes you hv to stick to it thru out the exam, ie cant keep switchin betwn type and write. Isnt tht correct? Another thing i heard, dunno how far its true, is that if one uses the computer to fill SP notes then CS results tend to come out sooner....!??

You can write or type in each case. You choose at the end of case when the time to write PN, if you start typing they come and take your paper for that patient only. If you type, they scan and put them in the computer and reading time of typing or writing should be the same since it is not a MCQ, needed to be read. If youare good on typing and if you can finish the all in 10 min, go ahead and type. Good luck.
