I never asked this question before. But I seriously need genuine advice about my chances. I a FMG wants to apply IM/FP need visa J1 or H1,2004 grad, scores 77/75/CS passed all first attempt and planning step 3 in NOV. My USCE 6 month externship in IM+Cardiology, 4 months in Clinical Research Exp in Data collection, 1 month observership in IM from University Hospital, 2 month observerhsip in Geriatric Medicine top University Hospital. 4 LOR's 2 from immigrant doctor (NRI) both highly recommended 1st from Clinical instructor, 2nd from Private practitioner Cardiologist but top notch doc & next 2 from American doctor (not Highly recommended but good ones) 1st from University professor, 2nd from University Professor and PD, Principle investigator of my research. I know my scores are rock bottom, but I have good USCE, working on my PS and application. So friends please give your sincere input as its question of my future.

1. What will be my chances for 2007 IM/FP?

2. How much score will be good score in step 3?

3. Will my chances improve if I have step 3 scores in hand?

I have heard lot about such forums which gives good suggestions. I can’t keep trying year after year. As there are no perfect answers to it but I would appreciate, your suggestion will be helpful for me. Thanks!

Good luck to every one. sad

What are anyone's chances of winning in a lottrey?

If you buy a ticket, you have a chance, no matter how meagre ...if you dont, well you know.

What I want to say is this: your scores may not be the best around, but dude you have some other strong points: capitalize on that...sit down and do what is called a SWOT analysis in management jargon (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats analysis...a.k.a. Simply Waste Of Time)...

In your strengths you have USCE - wide and varied and you have couple of good LORs...yes, I have heard the small talk that USLORs from immigrant doctors are not so helpful..but I dont believe it so much. Talk to your recommenders and ask them if they have any "suggestions" for you..for applying, etc. etc...

Try to show in your Personal Statement your experience with research and clinical medicine out in the US...and try to explain your scores..this might help too..

And finally, applly widely and wisely...this is probably the single best step you can take...

And believe, nobody, NOBODY can calculate anybody's chances...so trust yourself and move on without asking others to evaluate your future for you: Its YOURS to make!

Goodluck!
