Dear amygdalaa,
You said you did MMSE in one case in your exam. Would you mind telling me how did you do it? I mean did you just do a shortened MMSE inclduing Orientation, Memory, Abstraction Judgement and 3 step commend? or you think we should do the whole 30 points exam as indicated in Kaplan book?

Generally speaking, When should we do MMSE?

Thank you.

do the shorten form .. and its only for the patients have problems with memory...
otherwise just do the
O
C
M thingee.. :P

o means orientation in place, time person
C is concentration...ask him to spell WORLD backwards
M check memory by telling him 3 things ...check for registeration and recall..THATS IT!!!
you wont be having time for the rest if you keep on doing the WHOLE exam... smiling face

sorry pearl

didn't see youpost.

I did not do the long version. I had a mnemonic

TOMJAC- Three point, orientaion, Memory-short and recall, judgement, attention, concentration.

These are all I did. The case was vague, I had to do detailed CVS and other systems. I did nt have time.

Hope that helps.

good luck.

Hi guys
I had a CNS case where it was written that the nurse had already taken MMSE and it was normal.
So, read the instructions carefully, you may not need to do MMSE at all even in CNS case.
