Hi guys, I was just wondering if I could have any chance at all to get into a residency in ophtalmology, that's my dream specialty. IMG, 2006 graduate. Taking first step in oct. No US clinical experience. So what's the score I need? What if it's lower than 99? Should I change my mind and find another 'dream specialty'?

well klimt welcome to the club , I am after the same thing too, I am not sure about the scores but from the research I've done about it I believe you need US clinical experience, preferably a published paper with your name in it and brilliant recommendation letters. As far as I know these are even more important than your score, but that's what I've found out, people may have different experiences. Anyways GL.

thanks for answering so quickly khorshid. What u said matches pretty much what I've heard too, but as u also said it's all relative. The paper and the recommendation letters I already have them, but they're signed by Romanian professors (actually one is signed by a French professor, maybe that will count) but I doubt they will be any good, as they're not related to US at all. And I was already thinking of an observership before applying for the residency. I guess that and studying hard for the actual Steps (I still need a high score, don't I ?!) is all I can do. If that's not enough, then.......tough luck....I guess well best of luck to u too
