ASTHAMA..due to hyperactive airways, resulting in episodic bronchospasm, producing wheezing, severe dyspnea and coughing.

findings...inflammation, edema, hypertrophy of mucous glands with goblet cell hyperplasia..and mucous plugs.

hypertrophy of bronchial wall smooth muscle, thickened basement membranes

two types..

EXTRINSIC asthama....type 1 hypersensitivity reaction, allergic(atopic) most common type

childhood or young adults +ve family history...allergens..pollen,dust,food,molds,animal dander..occupational exposure..to fumes ,gases, and chemicals.

INTRINSIC asthama...unknown mechanism..respiratory infections (usually viral)..stress,excercise,cold temperatures.drug induced(aspirin)

diagnoses of sleep pnea is made by

polysomnography.

lateral cephalometry is done if patient needs surgery to releive obstruction

A MUGA scan (Multiple Gated Acquisition Scan) is a nuclear medicine test to evaluate the function of the heart. It provides a movie-like image of the beating heart, and allows the doctor to determine the health of the heart’s major pumping chambers.

  • Technetium-99m-pertechne tate, labels the red blood cells in vivo.
  • The patient is placed under a gamma camera

  • The resulting images show the blood pool in the chambers of the heart and the images can be analysed on a computer to calculate the ejection fraction of the heart together with other useful clinical parameters. This scan gives an accurate and reproducible means of measuring and monitoring the ejection fraction of the left ventricle.

  • this scan can help pinpoint the position in the heart that has sustained damage as well as assess the degree of damage. MUGA scans are also used to evaluate heart function prior to and while receiving certain chemotherapies that have a known effect on heart function.

thanks studyin..nice way to explain..just to add a lill bit from lecture...

also called nuclear ventricular gram...its a most accurate way to measure the ejaction fraction.

best initial method to measure the ejaction fraction is EKG.

Myasthenia Gravis

Is this best for valvular function?

I agree with the above. Quantitatively Muga measures left ventricular ejection fraction Normally its around 50-55%

i was surprised that candida is not seen as STD in the adulescent. i will look up for adults.
