does Carbon monoxide shift the Hb-O2 dissociation curve?

  #2

yes, CO shift the curve to the left and decrease the O2 carrying capcity of the Hb, thus the curve bend downward. So, the curve turn left and bend downward.

  #3

that is what I thought, but I read in Step up (Samir Mehta) that CO does not cause any change ::very_confused::

i don't have that text, but i do notice that sometimes, different book say different things, i confirm that with Physio by Costanso.
Like in Micro/ immuno. Kaplan, mixed up the Light and Heavy chain on the Ig labeling! it was so confusing!!

  #5

u r right guest co poisoning shifts the curve to the left and downwards it becomes flatter and carrying capacity is reduced

  #6

You might be thinking of CN...cyanide does not affect the O2 curve, although both CO and CN inhibit cytochrome oxidase.
