Hello!
I hope to participate in the 2007 match. I have completed STEP 1 (94), CS next week. Would I have to take the CK in December to be elgible for the 2007 match or can I take the CK as late as late January and get the results in time for the 2007 match? I understand that I may not get many interviews because I will only have STEP 1 and CS scores in hand when I apply in late September.

There is only one right answer for questions regarding when to take the USMLEs:
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, WITH AS GOOD A PREP AS POSSIBLE, FOR THE BEST SCORES THAT YOU CAN GET.
So it all burns down on a risk-benefit analysis : how soon v/s how much score...and there is no easy way to set a cut-off on this

i could emphasize the importance of a good score, that's the most important part of your application, so think very well and make a good decision for yourself.

u need ur scores in hand by match day i think.. it takes 4 weeks to report.. so i think technically u cud give exam in late jan..

Thank you very much for your responses. I definetly have my mind set on only giving the exam if I am fully prepared. Even if that means, forgoing the 2007 match and using next year to augment my profile by getting a externship/volunteer work/research. I was just curious to know wether I even have the option to give the exam in January and it sounds like I do!

if U were in his place, in june & completed step 1 exam, which gives U more interviews:
take step 2 in early october & apply match when results ready?
or take CS to apply in september with its result+ step1 results?
