Hi,

I am an infrequent senior visitor of this forum, where I have learned a lot and found a great study partner and a great friend. A few of you might recognize me, most of you here at that time would have moved forward.

I am an IMG mom with 3 kids who started studing after a long break. Took my step1 in 2003 and failed with at 70%. Retook it in 2004 and passed it with a score of 76%. Remained very upset with my score for a long time and got really scared with these attempt things, therefore kept postponing step 2 ck. In 2005 took CS and passed. Then lo behold step 2 CK was staring wickedly at me. Had no choice but to take the plunge, either drown or merely survive. Therefore after 1 year of studing (cut it in half with 3 kids, i.e 6 months) finally took my exam on June 16 2006. Was unsure how I did in it therefore remained in total sublimation. Until July 19 2006 when the score was updated. The oasis trick worked and the great Red writings filled the screen. I sobbed in relief. After a while the same sinking feeling came back. After all its just a computer and a computer program,( my hubby being in computers"wink wink!!")The next day(on Friday) fedex delivered an "extremly Urgent" package. I opened it and found my ECFMG USMLE CERTIFICATION. Frankly thought I was dreaming. It said you have passed all the required exams, so yes my family and myself let that sink in and rejoiced! But wait a minute .. what about my score?? What if its 75%? Then I am doomed. But is passing better then failing even if at the borderline, would I really want to retake it again? I found my answer, No! Passing is definately better no matter what. So I started to be happy that I cleared my CK in first attempt.

Then finally my score came in on Monday. I opened it and couldn't make sense of the figures under the PASS column. Until I saw 91%. This time I didn't hesitate to scream!!! I got 225/91

Thank you GOD!! The rest is ......You get the idea.

This experience of the exam is in a different format and is for everyone out there who sometimes get low and blue. I know percentiles matter and have tasted both the lows and highs, but even if its a 75, the important thing is that YOU PASS!! Don't get me wrong, but I really really, REALLY admire the 99 ers, but sometimes even 80 does not feel right and loose the sense of accomplishment, this is to say its great to be a 99'er, but everyone on this forum is a winner, for you all are accomplishing acheivments every single day. So study hard, do your best and good will come to all inshallah.

I personally wish that more people with 75-80% also come forward and post their experiences with pride. So people like me are always kept motivated no matter what.

As for what I prepared with, the same as everyone. KAPLAN , USMLEWORLD, Q-BOOK, NBME, Kaplan simulated and a lot of prayers and support of my husband and kids

congratulations FH!!!
I admire your determinations and motivation. I am myself is still in the struggle to finish up the exams. I took the step 1 in May 2006 and alhamdulillah I passed, and now preparing for my step 2 ck which hopefully will be in January 2007. I have 2 girls myself (5 and 4), so I understand how hard it is to manage the time between family and your study.
Good luck for your match and good luck for other moms who are still in the USMLE battle.
