I just received this message in my Private messages. Since most of the messages that I receive there, should be posted to the group, that is what I am going to start doing:

"Dear bbb, thanks for all your support on this forum. Can you tell me how important is USCE. I have been contacting programs by email for USCE for a long time now and have rcvd regrets only. I am currently working in UK and have no USCE. Being an IMG, I understand USCE is important, but how important is it? I had a few friends who matched in 2004 with reasonable scores and no USCE.... It seems that situation is very differnet now... I have scores of 83/89 and am hoping for a couple match in IM, with my other half's scores of 84/85. ....Also we are IMGs. graduate more then 5 yrs and require J1 visa. .....What do you think? any advice????.... "

For some programs, it's very important, even mandatory. My advice would be that if you can get the USCE, then get it. If you can't, determine which programs don't require it and weigh your options.

My program doesn't require it - there are lots of highly competitive programs that do not require it. The trick is finding them.

Good luck
