Hi, guys I'm an Img from Argentina graduated in 1991. Since then made a Residency in Psychiatry, and worked in Argentina until begginings of 2003, moved to the US last year. When I started preparing for Step 2 I was horrified, of course I was updated in my field and in neurology but the rest, ALMOST EVERYTHING, were subjects I had studied 12 or 13 years ago.. I took the exam on December 11, and received my score yesterday, I passed 78/190 that I know It s not a great score but in perpective it is. Not to tell you that the first months I had to study only English... I prepared the exam with; Blueprints Medicine, OBS/GY and Neurology, reading some chapters from the Cecil's. Also studied from the First aid and First aid for IMGs. Made MCQS from QBank and NMS (both highly recommendable!) I didn t buy any book on Peds following the advice of FA for IMGs and studied that subject from First Aid and doing the questions and scored high on Peds..I agree with those people that say that the best books are the ones that you feel comfortable with, so my best advice is do not look for a single source, and make a lot of MCQs.. If I could do it you also can...Good luck to everybody!!

Hi Losergirl! My scores were : QBank 66% NMS 63% But be careful 'cause what I find interesting is that people with high scores in QBank (75-80%) sometimes fail and people scoring 55-65% pass... In my opinion the QBank is excellent for the exam, but not to make correlations. Good luck!!

Are you saying that for Peds , First Aid was your only resource? I am also riding in the same boat you are (old grad and IMG :-) ) I am so overwhelmed by the step 2 load with my full time job. Your peds remarks sparkled my eyes :-) can you please explain it a little more? Is there any other experiences of similar kind you want to share? I do not have FA for IMG. What I am missing? thank you Doc.

hi congrats on passing step 2, for losergirl i heard that whatever the score of kaplan simiulated u add 20 to that and thats your probable score of the usmle. while in the end i must say that paeds reqd more than first aid.

Hi logician guru! I hope this helps.. In the F,Aid for IMG they recommend only to study neonatology for peds. What I did was, first read the FA, then MCQs...if you add QBank 1.250 +NMS 900 you have 2150 questions, enough to fill the gaps..if you study all the MCQs of Peds you will be set! Good luck!!

Hi Gina, MCQ means Multiple Choice Questions that PERSONALLY I believe they can help you a lot in scoring higher because you get used to the type of questions they do..I found Kaplan Q Bank really useful. FA is First Aid. Now, if you are going for Peds please not follow my previous advice, but you can do the same with Psychiatry, just read the FA and then lots of questions... Hope I helped you, good luck!
