Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi guys,

I got my step 3 result today after one month. thank god, i passed with 84 %. For all you folks out there in the process of taking step 3 here's my two cents.

I read only crush step 3 and Usmle world for 2 months, couldnt afford to read more (moneywise and timewise), I am finishing up my phd right now and was studying 2-3 hours in the evening and full weekends. i think crush is a great great book and If you master crush and usmleworld, you are all set. unfortunately, i could do only 75 % of usmleworld questions and I couldnt go through all my wrong answers.

I did not do q book or q bank.

i did nbme 2 weeks before the exam, got 450 in it and was thrilled. Unfortunately, i realised in the exam that the questions are much longer and convoluted. My problem was mostly keeping myself focussed, long questions are really unnerving for me. NBME is not, i repeat NOT a good indicator of your actual scores, because the questions are much shorter in length and easier than the actual exam.

i agree with various people in the forum that USmleword scores are the best indicators of your actual scores.

Regarding CCS, most of them were straightforward except for one geriatric case and one pediatric case. By the way, these exams keep reminding me of my weakest area in medicine, diseases pertaining to extremities of ages. Anyway, I studied only USMLEWORLD cases, and they are the best. You might not get the actual cases from USMLEWORLD, but it sure prepares you for 95 % of cases out there. I remember that when I started studying for CCS, I was looking for good practise interactive softwares, never ended up buying it, but sure enough, came to know a lot about it by talking to my friends. So, for all you people out there who are get a kick out of scoring 99s, this might be helpful for you, for ccs, these are the softwares and websites out there, and my rating is totally dependent on other people's views and i havent used it myself

1. www.passfirst.com(the only truely interactive ccs, rest of them are gimmicks) BEST
2. www.usmlesteps123.com ( not really interactive, even though they claim it is) GOOD
3. Karstan's and Shaher's cd ( have heard that they are difficult to navigate, are in a weird powerpoint format eventhough they claim its interactive, and are ripoffs of Usmleworld) NOT SO GOOD

Anyway, without anymore delay here's my practise exam scores

USMLEWORLD, 54 %
NBME, 450
USMLE CD, average 34-35/48
Kaplan q book and q bank, did not do
CCS, Usmleworld (really good)
ACTUAL SCORE, 84 %

good luck to everyone out there treading the last leg of the journey
