Can anybody tell me the mechanism of action of 6-Mercaptopurine. Its a purine antimetabolite,but can you explain me in detail its MOA(mech. of action) Thanks in advance <:from_book:>

The ribose phosphate form can inhibit de novo purine ring syn.,as well as AMP and XMP from inosinic acid

What about HGPRT ? Does it inhibit it ?

HGPRT activates 6MP and the activated form then inhibits purine synthesis

thanks meg. now i have clear idea about it. thus the neoplastic cells show resistance to 6MP by inactivation of gene encoding hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl transferase.
