hey bbb...i need ur help...i am an IMG graduated 2 years ago, currently working as a resident at the psychiatry department in a university hospital overseas...i took step1 and got 90...the problem is as follows - i want to get IM in the states
- i will not be able to apply in this match,,will have to wait for the next year match till i am done with my steps
what i want to ask about r the following: - is it better to quit my job and look for a research job in the states while waiting for the next year match?
- can i get a research job while i am on B1/B2 visa?
- if i quit my job and then failed to get research job in the states (so i will be unemployed for almost a year)..will this have a negative impact on me when applying in the next year match?
- simply which is better: my experience in psychiatry at my home country or research experience in us provided i am able to get one?
thx in advance for ur help bbb..i realy appreciate what u r doing

All I can tell you is this: every year, my program hires physicians who have no USCE, never touched a patient in the USA prior to starting residency. And the ones here that know who I am, know that I work for a fairly strong program. It's a crap shoot. Good luck.

That's not a question that I can answer. I can't advise people on what to do in their lives - sorry.

pharoh: if you quit your job and only study for a year, without doing nothing but studying, that will have a bad impact in your application. Because that's what they call a "gap" and that's bad, so, try to be studying and work in the states (if you can), if not, it's better to work in your homecountry than nothing.

When directors see that gap the first thing that you will be asked is "what were you doing during this time??", and I WAS PREPARING FOR THE STEPS... is definitively not a good answer, try to fill something to fill the gap with.
