this is a tough cookie but i will try. (mj says it is better to say BOO than nothing at all!!!)
valid ..... ability to repeat test and get same result = accuracy (hitting bulls eye each time).
precise... getting a cluster of similar results each time, reliability
for spread.........random variation
for accuracy.......diff betw actual and obtained means.

if u gt confused in an exam, look at the fist 3 letters to match them

PPV=true positive/total positive
NPV=true negative/total negative

IM CRAZY!! was using predictive value in stead of RATE.. will go and delete the confusion i've created!!
basically u have sensitivity and specificity
then u have the false negative rate and false positive rate
1-sensitivity=
1-specificity=

i kept mixing the following similar terms..validity, precision, reliability, accuracy

PRecise and Reliable mean the same

the utility of the formula is that if the specificity is a 100%, so is the PPV. this is because with 100% specificity u have 0 false positives.
( sorry again btw)

No study-ing
PPV=true positive/total positive
if sensitivity=100%, there is no false negative but we do not know false positive

if 1-specificity = false positive rate
and PPV= true positives/ TP + FP
then it follows that PPV = 100
