You must protect patients from an incompetent doctor (co-worker)...
You must remove the doctor from patient contact, and report to higher up...

Can you all give any cases where this would be necessary...

-Drug use

(any others)... Any psychiatric conditions?

IF HIV and surgeon, yes, danger
BUT IF HIV and radiologist, then NO, no danger.

drvirgo, what is your reference about HIV and the surgeon? routinely, no need to inform the patient except there is a breach of skin or mucosa eg, dr cuts his finger intra-op or he has an open lesion. my reference is BRS 4th ed, pg 221.
