If serotonin is responsible for "impulse control", why do people with mania have an INCREASED Serotonin level???

with brain neurotransmitters this is one point u have to be very careful with...DO NOT generalise..

in anxiety, catecholamines rise, in depresion they fall...yet most pts have both...that is y psycho drugs are so vague 9not just for medical students) but the scientific community at large!!

the way i resolve my confusion is LOCALISATION ...remember when u give the drug exogenously it goes nonspecifically everywhere. eg dopamine has atleast 4. levadopa for parkinsons meant for the nigrostriatal pathway , yet it produces side effects for all the other pathways too

mania i guess will be similar...dont remember the pathways etc at all...sorry.. cant specifically explain
