Patient is in a coma or vegetative state. There is no living will, and no adult power of attorney. The only person available is a 17 year old minor who can best represent the patient's wishes? Do you listen to him/her? Or...........?

what do u think of the best interests option?? if a 17 yr old kids wants to refuse mechanical ventilation, HE cant. if his parents are confused, U STILL DO NOT terminate it coz, they by law cant withhold limb or mife saving treatment..u wait till the kids 18... this is a concept i recently came across....so now im unsure of the 17 yr old representing the pt's wishes...

you have to go by best interest options. if it is believed that nothing further will be gained by keeping him alive, then turn machine off. a 17 yr old is a minor and cannot represent patients. except he is emancipated. this is my opinion.

I think thats right... 17 year old can't decide on patient's life.. I guess you could wait till he turns 18 or involve the court.
