Can anybody tell about HIV vaccines ?

  #2

I dont think any are out in the market. The HIV virus like the influenza keeps evading due to mutations.

I meant they are trying to reach a vaccine(research going on), but the mutations especially of envelope glycoprotein antigens(V3 loop etc) is hampering it.Highest mutation rate seen with pol gene.

Anyways they r trying with recombinant HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein vaccine, soluble CD4 recptors, using live recombinant organisms.

over all still not yet accomplished in developing a good vaccine.

Hey,

I know a little about HIV vaccines. I think that most vaccines that were developed before was towards mounting an antibody response. These failed mainly because HIV has been able to evade the Ab since it's an intracellular pathogen. Therefore, people have looked into a new breed of vaccines dealing with a cell mediated immune response CD8+. However, scientist who are conducting research on this field are once again saying that a cell mediated response alone is not potent enough and might need to make a vaccine with both CD4 and CD8 characteristics.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone. Anywayz, this is my first post in this forum. I hope we will all do great on the boards smiling face
