Hi cd,
take all steps ASAP even for 2008 match.earlier u finish ,sooner u will be in usa to get invaluable USCE.After ur score its THE USCE which will get u a residency.
Anyways, as for time line...Take step 1 in december.step 2 in april or may.And step2 cs in june/july.
STEP2 CS will take only 15-20 days depending on ur dedication.
The earlier u come to USA for step2 cs, the better it is wfor ur residency chances.
If i were u,I would try to take step 1 in november end(to give myself a cushion of dec),step2 in march/april.step2 cs in may for sure.

Have u booked ur exam dates?even if u r planning to match in 2008,u shud try to fix the dates ASAP.It will give u an target to aim for. All the best.

hello sir,congratulations 4 the great score..i have a small question i gave up readin 4 step 1 2 months back because of personal issues .now how much time do u think that i should give before taking my step 1. in term of no.of hours per day...q sources.i read everythin once though.but i m not too sure how much i remember.thanks plz reply

hi
I am just making myself more conversant with USMLE.Can you tell
1. when can we appear for step-1.I mean is it our liberty to choose date and month?If not so, then in which month the test is usually held.Do inform of any related details.
2.Can one appear for Step -1 at under-graduate level.If one does so, is he at any loophole-your comments.

hello guest..first of all....congratulations for ur excellent score. and thanks to u for the detailed post abt ur study plan. it is really very helping.
i have just started prep for step 1 aand is aiming for 2008 match. i am planning to take step1 in jan, step 2 in april . is it doable?? i mean step 2 in only 2 months?? i am an IMG n completed internship this yr and is studying full time. i m nt taking any kaplan coaching.will get the kaplan notes in erly nov. till then i hv HY bks that u mentioned and FA.
i heard that its better to complete all stpes by mid august.bt how far can it be delayed to be able to apply to the residencies.??
and also how can i have USCE after the step2 CS?? dont they require USCE before applying?? and if its possible..what is the procedure after CS ??
it will be really helpful if u kindly reply to my queries.

hmmmmmm......a lot of questions have to be answered today!
luckyluck...I am sorry to hear tht because of ur personal issues u had a break in ur preparation.anyways Gap of 12 months is a long period.And u had read it only once.so If i were u ,I wud have started as a fresh student.I wud have given 4 readings again in a matter of 6 months of solid preparation.starting with 6-8 hours per day and intensifying to 12 hrs per day in last 2-3 months.GL TO U.u can do it,if u r determined.
param_dr.....u can visit the website usmle.org or ecfmg.org to get all info abt usmle's.U can take the exam in any time of the year and even while doing ur undergraduation.the most difficult question u have asked me is ...loopholes if any if u take the exam while doing medical schooling..That solely depends upon many factors....
for example...a unversity topper or above average student may take the exam as soon as he/she is done with patho/phramac/micro exams.And they can still get away with great scores.
an average student will need some months of preparation to get an excellent score.And below average scorer will have to put much more effort to get high score.So u will have to judge ur own self now.IF I were u i wud have started the preparation without thinking abt abt when i would be taking exam.The fbest strategy will be, finishing ur kaplan books twice and then think abt fixing a date.Gl to u.
Dr ss.....ur plans can be executed nicely provided u show tremondous determination.I must say tht u should try to get kaplan notes now itself and start preparation with kaplan.HY are complimentary books.The questions given behind every chapter in kapalan notes help u in stimulating ur mind for real exam.....there are no questions in high yields...they are just like novels.U must read them but only after 1-2 kaplan readings.Abt finishing all steps by Mid august ,u shud try it but there is NO HARD AND FAST RULE AS SUCH.Regarding USCE u will have enough of time to think abt it once u r done with ur usmle steps.Go thru other topics in this forum life IMG'S ,MATCH etc.GL 2 u.

Rayberg...I think i had answered tht question in earlier part of thread...anyways I used to study for 8 hours on average initialy and went on to 12 hrs /day in last few months.Those hours meant only books and nothing else.goodluck rayberg.

Guest 007...Just dropped by to say that this is indeed the BEST EXAM EXPERIENCE & STUDY PLAN that I have come across in the entire time that I have been on these forums. A great score was no doubt all yours...u deserved every bit of it!!!Congratulations & all the best for your match & life in general!!
One qs too haan: I did not do any of the HY books except that I do have gross & embryo ones of the series...but I plan to do a quickread of just HY Embryo.Do u think that all HYs are a must????As I dont have much time left in my exam ,have done 1st reading from Kaplan only & shall finish my 2nd next mth .IA.
