Hi everyone,
Atlast I got my score yesterday on july 15th.I let my wife open the mail envelope becoz i feel she is lucky for me.moreover i was apprehensive too.She started jumping with joy when she saw what I cant believe even now.I saw it twice in a fraction of second to believe it was for real.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank robin,tolito,mj,reet,and all who supported me during my preparations with valuable answers to questions on this forum.I would like to thank all the people whose well wishes worked for me.There are so many people that i can not even take everybodies names But thank u all.
I had a real celebration last nite.It was my first wedding anniversary too.So we cut the cake and had nice chineese dinner with wine.ALL in all it was a dream day.I can not forget this forum ever in my life...I had got addicted to it.Now that I am done with all steps and waiting for step 2 CS results.I know its a tough game eveybody is playing for residency.Would like to have ur wishes by my side for the same.
I know many people on this forum are preparing for just step 1...so work hard for it guys.keep ur ultimate aim of residency in mind.There is lot of competition out there.All the best to everybody.
Now coming onto plans of studying for step1.So many people of already wriiten about there plans and books.In the matter of books stick with KAPLAN.And compliment it with First aid IN last month.buy BRS PATH,high yield molecular biology,HY NEURO,HY GROSS ANATOMY,HY HISTOLOGY.Any one of you who is familiar with score report?They give you an asterisk if u do extremely well in the subject.I never expected too many of those but after seeing them i was more happy.Got it in almost eveything but felt proud when i saw it in my weak subjects like GENETICS and BIOCHEMISTRY.
My Friends stick with good books and please read it 3-4 times I assure you good score if u do that with sincerity.I know brain matters but in this kind of exam hard work matter more than brain...believe me.Ofcourse u have to make ur plans as to how much time u will take for studying for step1 but 6 months is more than enough.
And I dont know how many of u will agree with me but when Aim for score ....AIM FOR ur 3 digit score to be more than 260 0r 270 U will definately reach above 250 and a 99.And automaticaly u will get a 99,what u wished for.
When u start studying initially u will have difficulty in usderstanding the concepts but keep reading it again and again AND U WILL MASTER IT.use ur support system like spouse,family and friends well for ur studies.ultimately u will make them proud oneday.Always revise whatever u read on a particular day before going to bed.THINK USMLE,EAT USMLE AND SLEEP USMLE.
Whenever i used to deviate from my studies any day ...i used to get a warning from my wife ...some of u may be familiar with that warning.but for those who are not married.....U appoint somebody who can guide when u are feeling down or when u think is deviating from studies....i mean deviating from studies even for a single day.I mean it used to happen to me when i studied for 6- 7 hours in day time I used to watch EVERYBODY LOVE RAYMONDS but sometimes Subconciously i used to follow it with FRIENDS.......That was the time when i used to get warning.IN short relax after studies but do not overrelax.
Make a schedule and stick with it.Always make ur own plans remember if i kud do ,we all can do it.study well ...ALL THE BEST TO ALL.

thank you for sharing your experience and congratulations!Could i ask you for some suggestions here?i have only 3-4 month left before the exam and i just started reading kaplan notes.i also have kaplan home study books but i dont know which one are better??i do have hard time in understanding the kaplan notes at my frist time of reading(which i havent done yet).now i am kinda cluless.you think 3-4 month of full time studing will be enough?should i read kaplan notes a few times before i take the exam?? thanks for sharing again and good luck for the coming one

Hii guest first of all my hearty congratulation for such a huge score. u deserve it man .I just wanted to ask u iam just beginning my prep for usmle.I was thinking of doing first aid high yield stuff thoroughly from kaplan and goljan do u think that if we know all the first aid stuff cold from kaplajn that is sufficeint to get 90+. how did u used kaplan dvd .how u were doing question. caan u pls give me your email addressor u can email me at

thanks everyone,
dreamer....if u have the caliber of studying for 12 hours a day everyday for 3-4 months...that should be enough for taking up step 1 confidently.read kaplan atleast 3 times and FA 2 times before exam.that is a must.nothing less than that.GL 2 u.

sam27......according to me Reading kaplan is a must before doing FA.But u can do as how u also said.Thts a good question u asked me that can u get a 90+with doing FA stuff from kapaln and goljan?As I never did as what u have plans of following then i may not be a better person to ask this question.I am sorry for that.But if u have time of 5-6 months then please do kaplan first thoroughly.....BRS path,and goljan audio simultaneously....And HY as i have mentioned earlier.Then FA...tht will be ur pitch for scoring a 90+ for sure.
sam27 I never used any dvds for step 1.I just read kaplan lecture notes.and HY plus BRS path AND goljan.

HI guest007 thanks u so much for answering my queries.i want to ask u one more thing kaplan is huge material how did u retained everything in kaplan . how did u memorised everything ,what was your study style . i know everybody has different style but just iam curious about it

Lim......when i was new to this forum ....I had the similar palpitations as u r experiencing at times.I had them...till i gave my exam....and I got them again before geting the score.It's Normal.....Believe me...just use it properly for urself.It can bring a lot of determination to do well...SPECIALY if u think about a good score early in the morning......that will keep u going full day...u will be able to finish so many chapters in one day itself.......that will make ur day count.NOT TO FORGET....It will keep u awake after the lunch too.JUST USE IT......nicely.
