Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Have been studying for step 2 for about two weeks, going slow with IM and half way through, wondering if its too soon to supplement my reading with a question bank like Kaplan Q bank or UW. Intending to save UW till the very end of my review as a gage and use Kaplan Q bank for practice. Planning to take exam by late Sept. Any advice appreciated. Good luck!

I'd say start with questions as of now....they'd help consolidate what you're reading(also break the monotony).I'd also suggest taking an early start with UW...it adds a lot to whatever resources you may be using....most people take UW as a learning tool rather and use the NBMEs as a gauge/assessment.Just my opinion...hopefully the others will weigh in on this too.Good luck!

thanks CYRA, guess I should sign up for UW. Is there any value in doing UW twice before the exam? I did that for step 1 with Q-bank and found myself, already memorizing the answer as a reflex the second time around. Which was what I was trying to avoid with step 2, but if it helps, why not.. your thoughts??

I used UW as a learning tool, doing all the questions in tutor mode. Took me about 1:15 to get through each block. Other classmates have told me that it takes them closer to 2 hours. It really helped break the monotony of reading Secrets or B & W.

tutor mode? doesn't that give you the answer right away after each question? Did you do UW twice? and thanks

I would suggest you finish reading Kaplan notes first. If you start doing UW Qbank now, and get low scores, you may feel bad.

I also suggest that you always do UW Qbank "timed, unused questions only, all subjects, 46 questions in each block."

Yes, it gives you the answers right away. I used it as a study tool. I found that doing the questions in timed mode, then reviewing my answers wasn't effective for me. I'd forget my reasoning for choosing some answers. So tutor mode works better for me. I'm on my second round doing UW.
