i think this is a case of water intoxication...as there is gain of water(hypotonic fluid)may be tap water or distilled water,ECF osmolarity decreases because excess water is retained ecf volume increases therefore water shifts into the cells icf osmolarity decreases and increase in icf volume..if plasma (ecf)osmolarity decreases, there will be decreased ADH secretion,as there is decreased ADH it leads to diuresis-urine flow rate increases ..

ok one litre of water first of all it will inc the ecf vol there will be dilutional hyppnatremia so ecf osmolarity will go down there will be no effect on icf viol b/c there is no electrolyte change only vol overload will cause kidney false effect of hypertension so dec renin release dec adh so urine osmolarity will go down for a little while more diluted urine will pass urine flow will inc b/c glumeruli are arranged in series so flow will all over inc & diuresis will occur but as soon as ecf gets its original osmolarity back by diuresis which is 300mosm/l & vol gets back there will be no reason to be adh to high so everything will go back to normal if there is no pathology present. correct me if i am wrong.
