Hi everyone,

Today I just received news that my step 1 results will be postponed for around 3 weeks, which means I will have 21 nights of more nightmares! So I thought there is no use just sitting home, and so I will start my step2ck preparation. I would like your advice and your thoughts on my study plan for the step2CK.

I just finished my step2ck diagnostic exam at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Kaplan NY,NY.

And here are my scores

Over all score 66%

Epidemiology 33%

Psychiatry 53%

Surgery 64%

OB/Gyn 69%

Pediatrics 67%

Medicine ( which I thought was my weakest point ! ) 74%

So I thought I will start studying what I am the most weak at, and spend most of my time on what I am weak on.

Epidemiology &Psychiatry for 6 days followed by 1 day of questions

Surgery for 4 days followed by 1 day of questions

Ob/Gyn 6 days and 1 day of questions

Pediatrics and Medicine I plan to study them together 5 days of reading, and 5 days of questions

I only have 3 months, and then I am very sure that the new baby is going to take my heart and all my time, so i really can not afford more then 3 months for this test.

Here are the books that I will be using:

-kaplan notes for step 2ck

-kaplan Q book and Qbank for step2

-USMLE World for step 2

-my own notes that I wrote during clinical rotations in medical school

Here is what I need your advice on:

1-many say that UW is better then Kaplan when it comes to questions. So would you guys recommend doing the UW first or the Kaplan questions first. I'm really not sure WHAT AND WHEN would be the best way to use all these questions.

2-my biggest weakness is epidemiology and psychiatry, would you guys recommend any book other then the Kaplan notes for the step2ck ?

3- to get a 99 on the real exam, what should be the score to aim for on UW, and Kaplan Qbank.

4- in general I plan to go over all of the notes only once and then start doing questions. When I start doing questions I plan to do around 75 to 100 questions a day, and on the next day look at the break down of those questions and then study my weakest subject as indicated by the break down of the questions I did the previous day, and keep going back and forth between the questions and the notes till I finish all of the questions.

5-would you recommend that I use Usmle World after reading the notes and adding the new information from the Usmle World to my notes, or should I keep the Usmle World questions tile then end because they are more representative of the real exam?

I'm always afraid that if I do the USMLE world questions for a second time that I would remember the answers, and then the scores I get will not really represent my real scores

6-is the NBME exam is as useful in step2CK as it was in step1? When would you recommend taking it ?

7- does anyone recommend any other books or questions ?

Thank you all for your time and advice.

amer

Hi Amer, do question since day "1", you can start with UW ( you cannot make more than 46 q's per block, this is the max of q's they allow per block) and 2 months before the exam do kaplans Qbank.Take notes of UW expalnations,to review them later on.
About notes to read, Kaplan is the best source, also Kaplans Qbook.

Good Luck with step 2 and the new baby !!
