hi guys,
from tomorrow that is july 10th 2006 i am going to start my preparation for step 1 as seriously as is possible by me.
about a month ago i was nowhere in my prep. then i stumbled on this site and then i became a part of this big group on this site that was preparing biochem. that group inspired me to start studying with a serious and determined mindset. initially it was hard but slowly i started making some progress. so during the last month i managed to complete that one subject that has been my weakest preclinical subject ie biochemistry.
now i have started studying micro and immuno alongwith pharma. till yesterday i was doing a full time 9 hour job but now i have decided to take off for the next 2 months so i can devote all my time to step 1 and i shall be reporting how i succeed or fail in my efforts day to day by posting my progress in this thread.
so the writing is on the wall for me. time: 2 months. target: complete preparation for step 1!
i know its going to be extremely hard and i may or i may not succeed but i would try my best.
progress so far is that i have completed biochem and genetics. and by that i mean i have read it once alongwith seeing the videos once.. am sure would need a few revisions before i could claim i am completely confident of answering anything the usmle can throw at me but now i do understand the concepts and i guess thats what i'll try to aim for in my first reading.
besides that i've completed chap 1 and 2 in micro. tomorrow would be starting with chapter 3 in micro and chap 1 in pharma.
i am studying from kaplan lecture notes alongwith their videos.
would be updating my progress throughout the day starting tomorrow.

hi guys,
its almost 7:30 at my end. am getting ready to start the first day of my 2 month war.
the enemy (step 1) is formidable and right now looks undefeatible but i'll give it everything i have. and i'm positive, not only me but many of u reading this would eventually not only defeat it but some of u would go to ace it! how can i say that? just by seeing that people on this site have done it and continue to do it. it has given me hope and i am sure if we just do what all the successful USMLEers have been doing we can defeat this too. and all that we need to do is forget the rest of the world for 2-3 months and devote all they have got to step 1 prep.
this have worked before and i am sure it will work for us too.
i'm making todays target. will have my tea and make todays target as well.

ok guys all set to go.
target for the day:
micro uptil page 150 of lecture notes
pharma: till page 100 from lecture notes.
total time comittment estimated : about 14 hours.
current time is 8 am so hope to be done by about midnight considering i'll be taking a total of 2 hours break.
actually in micro i have read the 1st 100 pages already but i think since it is so high yield, i'll reread chapter 2 again from page 50 onwards.
so that leaves almost 200 pages to cover today.
let me get to work guys.
starting page 50 of micro lecture notes...

its 9:30 am now. on page 90 of micro. am begining to feel sleepy and tired. so will take a 30 min break now. will start at 10 am.

ok guys am back...
hadnt slept well last night so sleep had begun to get to me aftr just an hour and a half of studies. had some hot chocolate. feels better. hope i can concentrate for next 1 hour.

hi guys,
started at 10 am. now its 12 noon at my end.another break now. time for a break.
progress so far: covered till page 126 of micro lecture notes. now ould start from page 127 the ultra boring parasitology. and then later have to start on one of my weakest subjects. pharma. target for that being first 100 pages of lecture notes (which i feel would be extremely tough for me to meet coz i am very uncomfy with pharma....)
i hope i can stay on target... would know i sleep today...

am back. am starting parasitology at page 127. would be studying ill page 150 as thats the micro target for today. time for lunch break after page 150.

whew!
just finished parasitology. now on page 145. still 5 pages short of today's target for micro.
parasito was even more boring than i had bargained for. or maybe it was because i was feeling very sleepy.
anyways would now take a break and have a really late lunch and hopefully get a short nap. then would start phrma.
have still got 5 more pages of micro left. so total of almost 100 pages still left. and its already almost 2:30 in the afternoon at my end. lets see how it goes...

i am back for the second half of my todays target. having a bit of headache. i hope it doesnt get too worse.
starting with pharmacokinetics from kaplan lecture notes.

its 7:15 pm now. so battled for 2 hours 15 mins with pharma. completed section on general principles.
now time for break.
would start with autonomic system which is quite evidently ultra high yield as well as ultra boring.
so almost 60 pages still to go before i meet todays target and considering that they are all dealing in autonomic pharma, i am not sure if i would be able to meet the target for the day.
but i can try my best and that's what i'll do.
will be back after a short break.

whew... its 12:45 in the night now. am feeling too sleepy. still on page 85. falling short of the target for today by 15 pages.
i hope i'll be able to reach my target tomorrow.
for now going to sleep so i can wake up fresh and ready for another day.

hi guys,
i guess this site was down today as i couldn't open it.
i woke up todat at around 8:30 am so started late at 9 am.
todays target: Immunology 155 pages.
estimated time: 16 hours.
started at 9 am. expect to finish it 3 am (including break of 2 hours)
progress so far: completed 1st 6 chapters. now starting chapter 7: lymphoid system.
pages remaining: 100

hi guys,
since yesterday my net coonection was broken so could not report my progress.
anyways completed my yesterdays target of immunology from kaplan lecture notes.
today had some work to take care of, so am starting late today. i shall start today around 1 pm which is almost an hour from now.
todays target would be pharma from page 85 to page 150 from lecture notes.
estimated time: 10 hours.
should finish by : 1 am (including 2 hour breaks)
so would be starting at 1 pm today and would keep recording my progress here for the rest of the day.
