I am getting a project to work in in the Department of Physiology in my medical college in India.Suppose i work in that project from now on until September end and get a certificate for it.Will it be counted as research work experience. Also as it in in a non clinical subject, will it strengthen my application.
I have got step 1 score of 91.Will be sitiing for my step 2 ck in sept end and for cs in Oct end.I am interested in Internal medicine.Soalso wanted to know that wheher i am late for 2007 match?Do i have any chance of getting mathed with the timetable that i have set.
Need a honest answer.

yes it will count as research.. it will not significantly strengthen ur appli as much as research in usa wud.. but somethin is better than nothin.. i wud speed up the exams rather than spend time in research.. u can make it althoh it will be diffic if ur gunnin for h1 without a s3 in before feb.. bottom line - get the best scores..

Thanks apurva for your advice. The problem is that i'll get my medical degree in January and i think that it will be too late for being ecfmg certified.

if you are getting your medical degree in january as you only said it will be bit late for you to get into this years match,91 on s1 is a good score aim for > 95 (or the max 99) in step-2 and apply with US letters of recommendations next year(try and apply for oberverships from now itself you might get early next years slot which will be perfect for you).try and complete your step-3 as well by then.(please donot compromise on scores for a fresh graduate scores are important)

But however you might want to try out the scramble though its bit risky and not without headaches.

Decision is yours.

Good Luck.

if u r in delhi u can try clinical reserach in aiims. they pay u too plus work is very light. keep in mind it won"t be much help in match.
