Hi,

I am applying for 2007 match .My preference is Internal Medicine, but I plan to apply for med peds as a backup because of last years bitter experience. How tough is it going to be to enter into med peds.Should I be applying for pediatrics and family practice as well?

My scores are 83/89/CS passed/80/need H1/2003 graduate.

Any advice????

hi sk

dont take med peds as backup.. not to say dont apply there.. but its equal and if not tuffer than im in my opinion.. as its amg densely populated and only in great progs.. i wud take peds / fp / psychi as backup to im if i were u.. but rest assured u will defin make a prematch this yr bcoz of ur s3.. remem last yr we got our scores in very late..

hope everythin gr8 with usmiling face

What are the chances for me to get into an university program?? I understand it is pretty difficult. But I dont think there is anything wrong in having that dream.

there's no harm in dreaming...university programs as u know r more competitive to get into...if u have build up ur CV with observership or externship then yeah go ahead n apply to uni. programs....as we all know nobody can tell anybody's chances...i have said b4 to apply to some university programs according to one's credentials....point is u need H1..most uni. which sponsor H1 will b bombarded by applicants with high scores who need H1...unless one has some hands on clinical experience in US,,otherwise it will b difficult...u can go for J1 n apply to some uni. programs which only sponsor J1 but no H1....some people who dont want J1 will probably not apply to those programs...but looking at the trend lately people with high scores who need H1 will also apply to programs sponsoring J1 as back up so that might make it difficult again....not trying to discourage anyone but just my 2 cents...good luck

well thats a tough question,...all depends on wat u have been doing in that research...would u b able to publish anything or not? would u b able to get ur name associated with any paper/ publication or not?..get excellent LOR's from ur doctors there...research is better than doing nothing at all..but try to look for some clinical experience in a hospital setting...hope this helps...good luck

I dont think I can get a publication especially with the pace my research is going. But I am expecting a very good LOR.I tried for USCE for a long time. Finally landed in research. So have to cross my fingers and pray.
