Hi guys, gave the CS a few days ago. I can only tell you the test was reasonable. If I dont make it it is only because I screwed up or something. My problem with the whole thing was because i was scared i may not finish on time, i tried to hurry up at every step and I am pretty positive i did only a very 'focused' history taking and examination. For all cases i knocked, draped(exc one Sp refused), introduced myself, washed hands, empathized, counseled, and summarized. But I am afraid that i did many things I was not supposed to do,like repeat some qs, forgot HEENT in an RS , did MMSE for one, but did not mention in the PN etc. I ran out of time only for one case, hence could not counsel. so I am doing these days is hoping for the best and trying not to think of the 'encounters'. thanks for all your suggestions and support guys.

First of all, congratulations on getting done with your exam. Sounds like u did all the "necessary" things . U will get through. I need to ask u one question... when u said that one SP refused... u mean He/she refused to be drapped ???? So u just proceeded with out it ???

congrat amygdalaa don't worry! you'll b fine. we all forget these things. I did not run out of time but I did forget something in every encounter. I think it is physiologic. We just have to wait and hope. yes Chinda11, it can happen that an SP refuses to be draped. in this case, just proceed. this is why I always asked "do you mind if I drap you?", but everybody said it was ok.

Hello A...just sent you a PM asking you if you have taken CS yet and then came across your experience! Congratulations on finishing with the exam! I am sure you did just fine. What are your plans whilst waiting for the results? Enjoy and though it can be hard, try to forget CS for a while. Cheers.

drk1980- hi thanks. You may drape before examination. Most people do it while introducing coz they dont want to forget or that the patitent may be cold or uncomfortable coz they are wearing that uomfortable gown!

You can't do HIV/AIDS test with consent in USA. It is the law. So in reality we do ask pts about it. If I am seeing a STD case or mutilple sex partners or unprotected sex with someone you met recently, I will always suggest HIV test and tell them of course we do need your permission as well. In the high risk groups (as mentioned above) do both p24 antibody and HIV viral loads. In general screening only p24 antibody test is done. Since this is exam so you should mention that in PN too. It might be possible in the patient check list this is additional point that you did mention HIV test to the patient.

Many states passed the law to enforce DNA and HIV tests on all prisoners. Rapists, sex offenders in many states are required to submit DNA or HIV tests if they bite on the victims. So I will discuss the HIV result in another post !

As you have said, we are not talking about general population. Exam is not in the prison setting either. I believe no rapist/sex offender come to the doctor's office to tell you that he/she is a sex offender/ rapist and most of people deny any way. It simply does not hurt asking patient about HIV test, it is NOT against the law. But doing HIV test without consent CAN be against the law.

Patricia... I took my exam on 19th July.... our results are due on October 11th... you can only check OASIS trick once it says result reported...I know.. it is such a long wait... and i now feel that my anxiety and prayers for the result are also getting tired of this wait....
