Does Reye's happen ONLY when aspirin is given in the presence of a viral illness such as VZV, or can it happen just by giving aspirin alone for any other reason?

What about giving aspirin to children with Kawasaki's disease?
Can it cause Reye's Syndrome in these kids?

I can see your point

I only found it be with viral {inflenza or varicella}
I guess that is why aspirin is not used in kids,and love to use acetaminophen

Reye's syndrome occur in the recovering state of viral infection like chicken pox. Asprin increases the risk of developing Reye's syndrome but it can happen even with out taking an asprin.
