Hello everybodygrin,

Took my test on May 18th. in LA. I prep for about two weeks. Did a lot of reading from 3 sources first before practicing with anyone. FA is great for all the D/D's that they have. UW what can I say it si great for this Test. Pretty much every case I had, had seen it in UW. Also great for practicing with a partner or over the phone. Case-Based Simulation and review Series great book too. It show's how to write a simple and quick patient note. The pictures helped a lot too. And of course Mr. DIGITALDOC what a great web site. A lot of info and tips I followed most of them. Well all that I could remember. Also the buddies site. Great also. That is how I met my two great study buddies.

I practiced over the phone for like 4 days about 6 hours a day. Practiced live once for about 9 hrs. Only stopped for lunch. Went throught many cases and focused specifically on some maneuvers only. Practiced writing the Patient Note for a few hours but after reading FA, UW and Case-Based Simulation I pretty much had already and idea of a note.

Had tips from a couple friends who had already taken the test. Thank you to them too.

Also this forum has a a lot of great tips and assistance from someone.

The LA center was great. Friendly and professional. Also the airport is only 5 mins away. The hotels are only two big blocks away. About a 10 min walk. Not far. Beach is a 20 min walk. Highly recomend the LA center.

Good day to all!!!

Congratulations! ....how many days did you take to prepare? For my prep, I will be depending heavily on Digital Docs blogs and some CD i have of 44 and 65 cases. BTW, any idea abt the source of these cases?
once again SilatK, great job!!

Well I do not want to be selfish. Give credit to those who desrve it too.

I try to give this test before but I had no clue how to prepare for it. Had to posponed the test for like 5 months due to my prep for CK.

amydalaa,
Read D/D's and work up. Also remember your nemonics well. I only used LIQOR AAA, and PAM HUGS FOSS. I try to keep it in order too.

Good luck!

The center is close to the airport. A cab won't be expenisve since is close by. I thunk La quinta has shuttles from the airport to the hotel. I stayed with a realtive only a few blocks away from the center.

eman69: I recomend that after you read a case go throught it again but only tthis time think of what you would do in a real case. Questions and physical exam. go throught all details. Such as shaking hands looking in the eye, Draping the patient, and before exploring washing your hands. when you practice with someone practice reading the cases at the door, writing differencial and work up, and your neumonics.
Walk in greet tell your name and shake hands and than drape. Sit and ask questions. Do this over and over again. REad as many cases as possible. I found that many of the cases in UW were in my test. But FA helped a lot so did Case-Based simulation series too. When you practice with someone do it with a clock. Also ask for feedback.

Good luck!!

Big congratulations, Siltak! Thank you for sharing your successful stories with us. I am new for cs so might ask you some silly questions: 1) what is Case-Based Simulation you mentioned? 2) I am planning to watch video first, then FA, then UW cases. Do you think it's good? Thanks!

  #11

aimhigh,
Case-Based is a book written by to Drs. from California. It is very different from the rest. Pros: it has pictures and a great short format for patient notes. Great D/D's and work up too.
Cons: Not enough D/D's it requires at least to people to be able to practice the cases well. That is the original intention that you use the book with two people at least.

I suggest you read a few cases first. Read some D/D's and work up. I do not know how much clinical experience you have but videos should help clear doubts mostly. FA and UW more than enough. Of course find someone to practice with. Good luck!

hi SilatK,

Please could u tell about the exam duration in LA. Was it 8 hours exactly, starting from 8am, or did it spill over? thanks in advance.

  #22

It actually started around 0900a.m. . Four cases than lunch. Than four more than a break. I can't remember when we left but I think it was around 3.
