Hello everyone!! I was wondering if I could get some opinions and experiences on when is the right time to schedule interviews (do all programs allow you to schedule? or do they impose the date on you?). I´ve heard and read opinions that it is better to schedule interviews in January because you will be best remembered by PDs than if they saw you earlier, e.g. in November. But I also read somewhere that earlier interviews could have the advantage of higher probability of getting a prematch...could that be true?. I also wanted some facts and advice about how much time do I have to allot for interview season...I know it depends on the amount of interviews to attend and the amount of traveling needed, but I was wondering if one month would be enough. I would appreciate comments on this issue. Rafo

It all depends on the programme, and on your time and your travle plans, you should give atleast 2 days time between the interviews because you shud do some background check about the place the hospital the programme the residents fellowship opportunities programme strengths weakness etc..............because not all the time what u see during the interview day is true!!!!! Yes if you interview early in the season u stand a better chance of getting prematches and in places where they donot offer prematches they certainly remember you better if u interview late, again if u interview too late they might have got enough people to put on their rank list already by the time you interview!!!. It depends from programe to programe most programmes' will have a meeting to finalise the ranking list they would have listed the probables who would go onto their ranking list by the end of ur interview day, because it is impossible to remember everyone at the end of a long interview season. Most programmes will give you choice of dates but some wont!!!! depends on how many spots they have vacant for interview, and when did u apply and when did they send a call for the interview, sometimes despite liking your application they might not be able to give u ur date of choice simply because by the time they sent u a call OR BY THE TIME U SCHEDULE THE INTERVIEW ( DONOT WAIT FOR AGES TO SCHEDULE THE INTERVIEW JUST SCHEDULE THEM AS SOON AS U CAN THIS WAY U CAN GET UR PREFERRED DATE)and very rarely it also depends on how arrogant the programme is but most of the times if they call you for interview they try to accomodate you on your preferred date. Hope this helps. GL.
