Hi Guys,
I' an IMG with 2 years of residency on abroad. I would like to take the Step 3 before entering residency in the US. Does anybody know if that's possible, or do I need to have residency experience in the US before I can take Step 3?

go to www.fsmb.org (federation of state medical boards) You should take Step 3 so you can get an H-1 visa. You can still take it before residency, but apply to Connecticut (you can apply to Connecticut but then take the test wherever in the US). Every state has different requirements to take step 3, Connecticut does not require any residency training in the US. I already applied and hopefully will take it when I feel prepared (could be in 2 months)

Good luck!

is it? wonderful. thanks a lot. then since you can take exam in other states and wherever you take the exam, the result can be used to practice in other states as well. then why there are so many different rules in different states? that means everybody can just apply though connecticut and save all the trouble. strange. anyway, thanks a lot.

yeah..the rules seem redundant from our point of view, don't they?..anyways, i too applied to the CT board but took the exam in MI..
