Hi everyone,
I have the difficult choice to make of crashing Step 1 and2 of the boards by October and Matching for next year, or I can wait till 2008 by which time I can do step 3 and some observerships as I am an IMG.Also what non residency jobs can I do in the interim and what are the requirments

Hi, I am in the same position as you are.
Have you started studying for step 1?
I am going to start studying and if by Sep I feel that I am well prepared I will do step 1, but the advice that I've been giving here in the forum is that we shouldn't risk doing the exam and getting a bad grade, since this will not help us get a residency and I want to ace the exam, so if I am not prepared by those dates, it is better for wait to 2008 and try to improve my curriculum by doing observerships etc, then to risk getting a low grade and applying late to 2007 match with one grade and a low one.
It was difficult for me to realize that I will probably have to wait for 2008 because I don't have much time to study because I work, and I am a 2001 graduated, so I wanted to stay within the 5 year gap, and since I feel I already wasted so much time, I didn't want to pospone for 2008, but I will try to hurry up and study but it seems not a doable thing, aldo some members have told me not to loose faith.

if u dont have any pressing obligations..ie..u can afford to wait.... then go for 2008...
like yolanda says...its better to go in with a good score...and the usce u can get in the meantime will just add to ur desirability as an img....

I am more or less in the same situation. I ll try to make step 1 in Aug, step 2 in Oct and step cs on the 31. I finished in 2004 and I know how hard is to wait one year more so I ll give it a chance. If I cant make it I ll have to wait but I think that if you are all the time thinking that you wont make it you wont. my advise: Stop thinking and try hard and you will be in this match

The most important thing for an img is scores because thats the only objective way you can be compared with amgs. My advice is to take the time that you need to get the highest score possible, because if you get a poor score your chances of getting into any residency will be very slim........
Remember that atleast of 50% of imgs who have passed the usmle exams remain unmatched each year.........

Wow ,nice to see there are quite a number of us in the same boat.Yolanda, my Step 1 is in August.
And studying like crazy and working at the same time.
Me thinks the most important thing is good scores.I don't want to blow my chances by being in a hurry
